Description
- Moli also known as Mauli, Kalawa, Rakshasutr, and Kauntuka is a cotton thread mainly used for religious/spiritual purposes.
- Moli is considered to be extremely holy in Hinduism. In Sanskrit, Mauli means crown or above all.
- It is believed that Moli is a sacred thread that protects against bad luck and negative elements of life. Usually tied by a Pandit on the wrist, this divine thread can also be tied by the oldest member of the family on the devotees wrist.
- The red thread is also tied around any sacred object like a Kalash for added auspiciousness.
- Additionally, it is used during a rite of passage, Yajna or festive/auspicious occasions like marriage, Navratri, Raksha Bandhan or Diwali.
